TO MAKE THE BEST BETTER
What is 4-H?
4-H is so much more than farming. 4-H is a youth development program where young people ages 5 to 19 become part of a recognized group in the community. It is a “learn by doing” program where youth get the opportunity to “make the best better” through project skill activities. While 4-H prides itself on developing future leaders (some of whom may be farmers) it also gives youth the opportunity to learn skills they need to become anything they want to be: business leaders, accountants, lawyers, doctors, athletes, entertainers, teachers, politicians — the possibilities are only limited to their imagination.
What do you do in 4-H?
When you become a member of 4-H you don't just join 4-H, you belong to 4-H. Members have the opportunity to master skills they are interested in, to become active and engaged citizens through generosity and to develop as independent thinkers who choose to learn and make good choices on their own. 4-H youth members learn to focus on the responsibilities of life skills, leadership and citizenship.
By giving and working together youth learn teamwork, leadership, and thereby contribute to a group effort. They manage and think about what they want to achieve and how to make it successful. They learn goal setting, problem solving and organization. Through this cooperative process the members develop important social skills, how to communicate effectively and to grow and nurture relationships. These experiences ultimately build self-esteem, character, and self responsibility through the life style choices that each member makes for both them self and the group.
